Mendocino National Forest recruiting firefighting crews

NORTH COAST, Calif. — The Mendocino National Forest is recruiting for its 2024 wildland fire on call program.

The Mendocino National Forest sponsors and dispatches nine on-call/organized crew wildland fire type-II hand crews.

The program has been in existence for decades and has a positive and solid reputation. On-call crews assist wildland fire suppression efforts both locally and nationally.

The typical season lasts from May through November.

This training opportunity will provide the basic fire courses. Once you complete the whole program (about 10 days), you will be certified as a Firefighter Type II. No previous experience is necessary.

Register online and attend one of their in-person hiring days. Deadline to register is Feb. 1, 2024.

Hiring days will take place as follows:

Willows: Jan. 9 to 10, 825 N Humboldt St., Willows, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Upper Lake: Jan. 16 to 17, 10025 Elk Mountain Road, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Chico: Jan. 23 to 24, 3965 Morrow Lane, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Willows: Jan 25, at 311 S Villa. St., 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
