CLEARLAKE, Calif. – S. William Kapranos of Clearlake passed away Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at St. Helena Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born May 5, 1921, in Chicago to Christine Weber and William S. Kapranos.

He received his degree in chemical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1943. He was active in ROTC but did not serve in the military in WWII as his work developing jet fuel at Shell Oil was considered vital to the war effort.

His work as a management consultant and executive took him all over the world. He held many patents and became an entrepreneur.

He enjoyed choral singing, opera, sailing, woodworking, and restoring antique gasoline engines. He could design, build or fix anything. He lovingly built his wife a grandmother clock from a 25 cent set of plans for their 25th wedding anniversary.

He was active in parish life, including founding a chapter of Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas Aquinas in Camas, Washington.

He chopped firewood for the needy well into his 80s. He had a gift for languages and could mimic anyone. He had a song for everything.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Albert; sister, Marie; and son, Richard.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rose Capodice Kapranos; daughters, Karen (Lewis) Bowen and Beth (Kurt) Ackermann; daughter-in-law, Linda Kapranos; grandchildren, Nick (Jaina) Kapranos, Anna (Matt) Moran, Elizabeth Kapranos and Elijah Bowen; and great-grandchildren, Charlie, Lucy and Emma.

Visitation will be at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St., Lakeport, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, followed by a Rosary at 5:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Mary Immaculate, 801 N. Main St., Lakeport.

Graveside service be at at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Ill.

Basilia Rojas
November 27, 1932 - October 28, 2013

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Basilia Rojas died on Oct. 28, 2013. She was 80 years old.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Primitivo Rojas; three sons, Roberto (Yuki), Raul (Renee), and Tivo (Ann); and five grandchildren.

Basilia was completely dedicated to loving her family, creating community, and giving to friends and strangers.

There is no stranger to Basilia, after several minutes she would become a friend.

She will always be remembered for her optimism, her faith in God and her love of all people. She was a timeless community builder and always took the side of justice for others.

She was the greatest of cooks, and had legendary sopitos. She crocheted endlessly, and was an artist of life. She is also a wondrous story teller and talker.

We will miss her jokes, stories, and hot spicy and amazing chili.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 N. High St., Lakeport.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 4085 Main St. in Kelseyville.

Basilia will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Lakeport.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A celebration of life for Gayle Gene Thoresen, who passed away Sept. 9, 2013, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.

COBB, Calif. – Beatriz Garcia Puertolas died on Oct. 29, 2013. She was 85 years old.

She was born in La Paz, Baja California, Mexico, married in New York, migrated to San Francisco, lived the last 50 years in Daly City.

She passed away peacefully in Cobb, Calif., surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, Calif., at 11 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 5.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Kenneth “Jocko” Grimsley entered into rest on Sept. 17, 2013.

If he wasn't at the trap shoot on Sundays he might have been at Yuba College in the welding class, where he was a teacher's aide, and he would happily give advice to students in need.

In his free time he loved to go to the Feather River to mine for gold.

He had a love for life, family and friends.

He leaves behind his three children, Tammy, Kelly and Walter; as well as his grandchildren, Brenden, Rebecca and Wyatt.

His family invites his friends to join them in remembering and celebrating his life at the Brick Hall, 16374 Main St. in Lower Lake, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

Howard V. Wakefield

09/26/1926 – 10/27/2013

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Howard Wakefield passed away Oct. 27, 2013.

After serving in the Navy during World War II he worked for the U.S. Post Office in San Francisco for 30 years, while at the same time owning a locksmith business, Able Lock and Key.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise; and children, Bruce, Brian, Lisa and Victoria.
