Lorraine Leigha Zalusky passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, in Chico, Calif. She was born on Oct. 11, 1925, in Huntington Beach, Calif., to Leigh Farnham and Marie deWinstanley Farnham.

Lorraine grew up in rural Thousand Oaks. She met the love of her life, Robert Zalusky, a pilot during the war, at the age of 16. They were married in October of 1943 when she was 18. They were together for 67 years until his passing in of 2011, and she missed him terribly.

Lorraine was an incredibly sweet woman, a devoted wife and an amazing mother. She was a painter, a writer and a poet. She was a very spiritual person who loved life, loved to travel and was always dancing – even in the middle of the day she’d break into dance.

She had a passion for the ocean and many of her beautiful poems were of the sea, the sand and the waves.

She spoke often of her childhood in Thousand Oaks with her little dog Skippy, who traveled along with her on her bike and was trained to climb a big oak tree where Lorraine perched herself to read stories of Tarzan and many other adventures.

Lorraine had many friends who loved her dearly but even strangers noticed her uniquely sweet manner and positive take on life. No matter what life threw her – and it threw many nasty turns – she never complained and was always gracious and appreciative of any  kindness shown her. She had an incredible sense of humor and laughed a lot through life, and always put others before herself.

Lorraine had five children who she raised with an amazing love and strength as her husband, an airline pilot, was gone much of the time.

Lorraine is survived by her children Mark, Steven, Pamela and Michele. She has 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her eldest daughter, Ellen Marie, is awaiting her in heaven.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to www.oceana.org , whose mission it is to preserve the world’s oceans as Lorraine had a passion for the sea.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church at 566 East Lassen, Chico, telephone 530-343-4248.
