Since the second grading period ended many students will be receiving sustainability awards. The awards are gifts to students who earn at least silver level for sequential grading periods.

The gifts come from teacher Alan Siegel's media students. They are items such as key chains, mugs, and t-shirts.

The prizes are small at first but they get better the longer grades are sustained. The gifts are given out to help encourage students to keep their levels up, and not fall behind.

On Dec. 5 Carlé students sat down with their advisory teachers and discussed their test grades. These “test chats” were done to see what the students strengths and weaknesses are in tests.

It is the hope of the school staff that with support the students will do better on STAR tests and pass the high school exit exam which is given in English and Math.

On Dec. 7 Carlé students went with Superintendent Bill MacDougall to build bus shelters for community service. Carlé students did this one time earlier in the year. Their previous work was so excellent that MacDougall requested their services once again.

On Dec. 9 Carlé will have a student-staff luncheon assisted by the Clearlake Soroptimist Club. The women who came from the club were Pan Pitkin, Peggy Seifert, Alberta Dodge and Carol Hanson.

These women cooked the food for the luncheon with the help of Carlé students Kim McCarthy, Kayla Hopkins, Leticia Bowman, Joey Griffith, Jessica Boyle, Nura Brown and Shania Jones.

Each teacher and staff member invited a student to the luncheon. At the meal each staff member extols the wonderful things that their student did to get invited.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, student Robert Potter will have his portfolio showing at 1:45 p.m., then on Thursday, Dec. 15, Jorge Viera will show his at the same time.

Both students will have completed all their credit at their portfolios and will be official Carlé graduates. Congratulations.

Carlé principal Mr. To announced in the near future Carlé students will have a community service opportunity. The service is a Christmas luncheon which will be served at Burns Valley School. More information on this event next week.

Jade Fox is a student at Carlé Continuation High School in Lower Lake, Calif.
