LUCERNE, Calif. – Lucerne Community Church held a fitting tribute to the veterans in the community on Saturday, as members ran a new flag up the post.

Pastor Dwight Perry invited veterans in attendance to help hoist the flag which once flew over our nation's Capitol Building.

The church's flag had grown tattered and weatherworn over the years, and needed to be retired.

Glyn Morgan, from the Lucerne Community Church family, donated the flag which was presented to him by Congressman Mike Thompson in appreciation for his efforts in serving Lake County through various volunteer positions.

LCC has always valued the contributions of our veterans, and decided Veteran's Day was an ideal opportunity to present the Stars and Stripes in style.

Additionally, Primera Inglesia Bautista de Rohnert Park (First Spanish Baptist Church from Rohnert Park) joined in the celebration, following an annual couple's retreat held at the Lucerne facility.

Pastor Albert Rodriguez explained that five churches (and their pastors) had come together to explore "Making your Marriage a Priority" in a four-day event.

The National Anthem was sung as the flag made its way up the pole. It was a proud moment for those in attendance. Following the flag raising, a grand breakfast buffet was held featuring the best delicacies from all congregations.

In true American fashion the fellowship flowed in Christian love and support for each other, as we all honored those who wrote a blank check for our freedom.

The church salutes all veterans and will display the Capitol flag daily.
