Supervisors to consider Lucerne Hotel educational partnership

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The proposal to use the historic Lucerne Hotel as a college campus will go before the Board of Supervisors this week.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the board chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.

Sitting as the board of the Lake County Redevelopment Agency, the board will consider a proposal submitted by Marymount College to develop the Lucerne Hotel as an educational campus. The item is untimed.

In June, the agency sent out a request for proposals, and Marymount College was one of two proposals the county received, according to a report from redevelopment agency Executive Director Kelly Cox.

Cox is proposing the redevelopment agency board approve the selection of Marymount College's proposal, authorize him to enter into formal negotiations with the college and approve travel expenditures for Lucerne Hotel Education Task Force members Wally Holbrook and Wilda Shock in order for them to participate in a Marymount College site visit.

In other business, at 9:10 a.m., the board will present a proclamation designating the month of October 2011 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and at 9:15 a.m. will receive the Domestic Violence Services Annual Report.

In an untimed item, the board will hold the second reading of a new ordinance to govern the cultivation of medical marijuana, which the board approved 5-0 on Sept. 20.

The board has two closed sessions planned: one to discuss labor negotiations with the Lake County Employees Association, Lake County Deputy Sheriff's Association, Lake County Correctional Officer's Association and Lake County Deputy District Attorney's Association, and conduct a performance evaluation of County Administrative Officer Kelly Cox; and the second for two public employee disciplinary appeals.
