Election 2012: Local forums, debates planned around the county

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – In preparation for the June 5 primary, groups around Lake County are hosting a variety of forums and debates to help community members learn more about candidates for local office.

The following is a list of upcoming debates and forums.

Saturday, April 14

Clearlake

The Lake County NAACP Branch will host a supervisorial candidates' forum for districts one, four and five from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive, Clearlake.

The public is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the forum.

Wednesday, April 18

Middletown

The Middletown Luncheon Club will host District 1 Supervisorial candidate Victoria Brandon and incumbent Jim Comstock at a candidates' forum beginning at noon Wednesday, April 18.

The forum will be held at the Middletown United Methodist Social Hall, 15851 Armstrong St.

The public is invited to attend.

Lakeport

A debate for the District 5 Supervisorial race will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the board chamber on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St.

Moderator Joey Luiz will host the event, which will feature candidate Joan Moss of Cobb and incumbent Rob Brown of Kelseyville.

The format will include opening and closing statements, and questions submitted by community members. It will be televised and available for viewing online.

The debate is cosponsored by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Velocity Video and Lake County News.

The deadline to submit questions is 5 p.m. Monday, April 16.

Hidden Valley Lake

The Hidden Valley Lake Homeowners Association will host District 1 Supervisorial candidate Victoria Brandon and incumbent Jim Comstock at a candidates' forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 18.

The forum will be held at the Greenview Restaurant and Café, 19210 Hartmann Road.

The public is invited to this public service event, which will be held outside the community's gates.

Thursday, April 26

Middletown

The Middletown Area Town Hall will host a District 1 Supervisorial candidates' forum beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Calpine Geothermal Visitor Center, 15500 Central Park Road. The event is open to the public.

Incumbent Jim Comstock and opponent Victoria Brandon will provide opening and closing statements and answer questions.

Members of the MATH forum committee will serve as moderators for the event. No personal attacks or diatribes will be tolerated.

Wednesday, May 2

Middletown

A televised debate between District 1 supervisorial candidate Victoria Brandon and Jim Comstock will take place beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Calpine Geothermal Visitor Center, 15500 Central Park Road.

The community is invited to attend.

The format will include opening and closing statements, and questions submitted by community members. It will be televised and available for viewing online.

The debate is cosponsored by Calpine, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Velocity Video and Lake County News.

Thursday, May 3

Lakeport

The four candidates for Lake County Superior Court's Department 1 bench will take part in a forum beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Board of Supervisors' chambers on the first floor of the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes St., Lakeport.

The community is invited to attend.

The format will include opening and closing statements by judicial candidates Judy Conard, Susan Krones, Michael Friel and Michael Lunas, who also will answer questions submitted by community members.

The debate – which will be televised and available for viewing online – is cosponsored by the Lake County Bar Association, Lake County Chamber of Commerce, Velocity Video and Lake County News.
