LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Toastmasters International, an organization that hones the leadership and communication skills of its members, conducted its second level annual speech contest in Ukiah on Feb. 29.

The winners in the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest of the four clubs (first level competition) in the area – Cloverdale, Fort Bragg, Ukiah and Tenacious Talkers of Lake County – showed up ready to rumble.

Greg Scott, a past international director of Toastmasters International and current area director, chaired the contest and opened the meeting.

The Evaluation Contest has contestants taking notes while listening to a target speaker, then they have five minutes to prepare and then deliver an evaluation.

The winner was Jim Goetz, who is a member of the Tenacious Talkers and now advances to the third level division contest.

Dallas Gouldberg, a member of the Tenacious Talkers, won the International Speech Contest and will also advance to the division level.

Both Gouldberg and Goetz will be competing at the division speech contest chaired by Division Director Terri Boudreaux on March 28 at the Cloverdale Veteran’s Memorial Building, 205 W. First Street in Cloverdale. The contest starts at 10:45 a.m.

The International Speech Contest, which has a time limit of between five and seven minutes, is the flagship of Toastmasters International.

If a contestant competes and wins at the club, area, division and district levels, they will advance to the World Championship of Public speaking at the Toastmasters International Convention in Paris, France, this August.

The Tenacious Talkers Club meets every Thursday evening at Allied Information Networks Conference Room, 2150 Argonaut Road, across the road from the back part of Steel Wines. Meetings start at 6:15 p.m. sharp.

The public is invited to visit and learn about the Toastmasters Educational Program.
