MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. – District Ranger Frank Aebly has signed the decision memo to implement the Deer Valley Meadow Enhancement Project on the Upper Lake Ranger District.
The purpose of this project is to improve water quality and wildlife habitat while protecting sensitive resources from nearby OHV and grazing uses.
The approved project includes eliminating the failed check dams, repairing the fence damaged by the Ranch fire, cutting down conifers that have encroached on the meadow, planting willows to stabilize streambanks and prescribed burning.
The project work within the meadow involves six acres of National Forest System Lands while the greater prescribed burn area is approximately 75 acres.
Deer Valley is located north of the community of Upper Lake, Calif. and just north of Deer Valley Campground.
Implementation is expected to begin this spring.
