Description

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Susan Blair’s “Underground Railroad” sampler quilt and other quilts will serve as a backdrop to her Black History Month presentation on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at Lakeport Library, 1425 N. High St.

The program is free to the public.

Women have historically used quilts to express themselves through their choices of patterns and fabrics.

For her “Underground Railroad” quilt, Blair selected numerous traditional quilt blocks that reflect aspects of Black history.

Blair, a life-long student of women’s history, taps into quilting’s traditions and modern technology to create her art quilts. She stitches together pieces and patches from her lives as a textile designer, quilter and historian to create quilts that reflect women’s societal concerns.

Blair has served as president of the Moonlight Quilters of Sonoma County and is a member of the Pointless Sisters Art Quilt Group of Sonoma County. She lives in Hidden Valley Lake.

The Lake County Library is on the Internet at http://library.lakecountyca.gov .
